Hawaii

I had the rare privilege of serving as a research assistant for The Center for Whale Studies, and swimming in open ocean with wild humpbacks was a thrilling experience! I even had a baby approach me with marked curiousity. We shot many exceptional photos of mothers, calves and escorts resting, playing and traveling... but all underwater images of the whales (an any people in the water with them) are strictly kept by the scientists. When you browse these pictures I took from the surface, I hope you will enjoy imagining the rest. Read this 3-part newspaper series about my experience with the whales: Underwater Ballet.
